Protecting the environment and natural resources is becoming ever more important. Where a certain carelessness prevailed just a few years ago, a new awareness has now emerged in many areas. The earth’s raw materials are finite, so they must be used very consciously.
Our company, too, has given a great deal of thought to where there is potential for improvement in order to work and act more sustainably. And we found quite a few levers to pull. The ideas that were subsequently developed and implemented are remarkable and innovative within the industry.
We have not reinvented the wheel. But our decision-makers have thought carefully about where to start so that the company can act in a more environmentally conscious and resource-efficient way without compromising efficiency.
The changes begin with transport and warehousing, continue through our medication organisation products and extend all the way to in-house logistics. Interesting thoughts became strong ideas, which were then resolutely put into practice.
The results speak for themselves, and we look back with justified pride on the milestones already reached on our company’s journey – a journey that is far from over.
Almost all materials are delivered in cardboard boxes. Of course, that is practical, safe and light. However, the boxes are usually thrown away straight afterwards. We thought that was a waste – we prefer to reuse the boxes several times. If the cardboard is still intact, there is no need to dispose of it.
The same applies to packing material. Sometimes empty spaces in the boxes need to be filled, quite simply for safety reasons. Wood wool or paper could be used, but bubble wrap is the more sensible option. Although it is made of plastic, it is very light and therefore more sustainable in transport than heavier materials. It is also more durable, extremely flexible, safe and hygienic, making it the more sensible solution in the long run.
Internally, too, we have changed a number of processes so that energy consumption is reduced. This is not always easy in plastics processing, but here too there were adjustments that could be made.
For a long time, reusable systems were not something anyone in nursing care thought about. That has changed, and with our brands meli®, melipul® and melijekt® we are responding to this. The robust products stand out for their durability, which by far exceeds that of conventional products made, for example, from melamine resin.

Our slogan, which guides everything we do and think, is also reflected on our company premises. We made a deliberate decision to locate in a rural area, on a site that is neither concreted over nor paved.
Outdoors, we attach great importance to greenery and flowers. Unfortunately, the company cannot yet operate in a completely climate-neutral way. But through our greening concept we can help to give something back to the environment.
The entire vehicle fleet for our field sales team, management and staff has been switched to electric vehicles, or the switch is being actively pursued. It goes without saying that wall boxes and EV charging stations have been installed on site in sufficient numbers.
In addition, we have found a competent partner in JobRad, enabling us to make another attractive offer to our employees. We lease e-bikes through JobRad, which are available to our employees on attractive terms.
This keeps all team members fit and healthy. Thanks to the JobRad model, our employees even save real money compared with buying privately.
The changes within the company are a good start, but Schwarz Pflegesysteme strives to keep improving continuously. Our development is not yet complete, and further projects are already in the pipeline. Watch this space.
